THE CAMERA & SENSOR: The long anticipated ARRI ALEXA contains a 3.5K CMOS ALEV 3 SENSOR, which is CMOS’s next generation Dual gain sensor originally developed for the ARRIFLEX D-21. The Sensor area is 3.5K and actual imaging area is 3K, when fully debayered it will give you a 2K image which could then be down converted to 1920 X 1080P depending on your application. The ALEXA’s frame rate runs from 1 to 60FPS, and the shutter can be changed from 5 Degrees to 359 Degrees. The CMOS ALEV 3 sensor performs between Tungsten light and Daylight equally, and is rated @ 800 ASA, this can be altered from 200ASA to 1600 ASA.STORAGE:The ALEXA can record 4.4.4 Pro-Res onto hot swappable 32GB SXS Cards, Storage averages about 17 mins at 4:2.2 @ 25FPS. Meanwhile the camera can simultaneously record ‘ARRIRAW’ DPX files via its main outputs - Dual HD-SDI (3G) through two BNC connectors or single HD-SDI (1.5G) through one BNC connector.Note:‘ARRIRAW’ is the only way to get the best of this cameras imaging potential and full dynamic F-Stop range. At present ARRIRAW can be recorded onto a number of a third party device such as the ‘CODEX’ recorder or the ‘CINEDEK’ (available from us).
